Celebrating Women’s Empowerment and Community Well-being at Bongaigaon

In a vibrant celebration towards acknowledging and uplifting the role of women in society, the Bongaigaon township witnessed a remarkable initiative on International Women’s Day. The occasion was marked by the esteemed presence of the District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Shri Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, who, as the chief guest, inaugurated the function with enthusiasm and a deep recognition of the initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment and social betterment.

The event highlighted the significant contributions of NTPC Bongaigaon in spearheading community welfare activities, with a focus on empowering young girls and women. The dedication of the organization to social causes, especially in promoting gender equality and supporting the needs of females in the community, was commended by all attendees.

One of the central figures in driving community engagement and cultural vibrancy is the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club. As Karunakar Das pointed out, the club has been instrumental in creating a cohesive and supportive environment through its various initiatives aimed at enhancing the socio-cultural landscape of the township and its surroundings. Their continuous effort to foster an inclusive community spirit was evident throughout the event.

A spotlight of the celebration was the distribution of solar lights to 40 deserving young women from the 2022 GEM (Girls Empowerment Mission) program. This pivotal act underscored the importance of providing sustainable energy solutions to promote educational and personal growth. The initiative not only champions renewable energy but also underlines the critical role of resource accessibility in empowering young women for their future endeavors.

In an additional gesture of support, over 100 female house attendants were gifted bed sheets, aiming to enhance their comfort and living conditions. This thoughtful act signified a holistic approach towards recognizing and addressing the diverse needs within the female community, thereby advancing their well-being and dignity.

The program was graced with the participation of distinguished personalities and senior members from the NTPC Bongaigaon fraternity, including Shri I S Reddy and Shri Asutosh Biswas, alongside key figures from the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club like Jhumita Biswas and Vani Reddy. Their presence and involvement reflected a strong communal bond and shared commitment towards enriching the lives of women and the larger community.

An inspiring moment of the event came from Maskura Khatun, a GEM program alumna from 2022, who shared her moving journey and experiences gained during her time at NTPC Bongaigaon. Her story served as a beacon of motivation, encouraging others to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.

The International Women’s Day celebration was not just an event, but a testament to the collective drive towards fostering a society rooted in equality, welfare, and sustainable advancement. Through concerted efforts and meaningful interventions, the day reaffirmed the principle of empowerment and inclusivity, making a significant impact on the community and setting a precedent for future initiatives.
