Across substations and offices in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Karnataka, POWERGRID’s Southern Region Transmission System-I (SRTS-I) marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a blend of tradition and forward-looking resolve. At the Regional Headquarters in Secunderabad, the Tricolour was hoisted by Executive Director Doman Yadav, setting a tone that linked national pride with the everyday work of keeping the southern grid resilient—and steadily greener.

Renewing a pledge to progress and the planet

In his address, the Executive Director framed the day as more than a commemoration. He underscored that the nation’s strides in technology, infrastructure, space, and clean energy must be matched by a collective determination to close gaps in opportunity and protect ecosystems. Emphasizing constitutional values and social harmony, he called for sustained effort to build a prosperous, inclusive, and environmentally responsible India—an aspiration aligned with the long-term vision of a developed nation by 2047.

The ceremony brought together senior leadership, including TVS Praveen Kumar (Asset Management), Arun Kumar (Human Resources), BB Rath (PESM), and TSC Rao (Engineering), alongside teams from across the region. Retired employees, staff families, and children joined the celebrations, highlighting the intergenerational commitment that underpins reliable power supply and a safe workplace culture.

Southern India is a bellwether for India’s clean energy trajectory, with rapidly growing wind and solar capacity requiring robust, flexible transmission.
